Carissa Newman LPC, LMHC, Owner
Since I was a teenager, I knew that I wanted to become a therapist. My passion in helping others through difficult times paired with my empathic personality and passion in working with children and adolescents has led me to where I am today.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the State of Florida and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Virginia specializing in diagnoses prevalent in pediatric mental health. I received my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Saint Joseph and bachelor’s degree in Psychology, with a minor in Spanish, from Roger Williams University.
My professional experience has included working in multiple settings including outpatient organizations and private practice. My work experience includes but is not limited to providing individual, group and family therapy for children, adolescents and their families, prevention counseling in local schools and working alongside the Department of Children and Families with the child welfare system.
I am Nationally certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Nationally rostered in Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), evidence-based treatments for trauma. As a military spouse, I understand the unique stressors and impact of military life to service members and their families.
With life transitions comes growth and new opportunities. As someone who had struggled with fertility issues due to Endometriosis and birth trauma, I am passionate about shifting gears a bit and advocating and supporting women with similar experiences. I am currently working towards obtaining my certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) so that I can work with women in this population.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, two little boys and two dogs!
